Faro (Portugal): The pandemic affects employment in the tourism sector
The seminar entitled "Impact of the coronavirus pandemic on employment and social affairs - Tourism sector: the face of job insecurity" was held in the city of Faro (Portugal).
The seminar was organized by FIDESTRA. It was held from April 30 to May 2, 2021.
It is within the activities of the IPCM/PICM and EZA. It is an event carried out with the financial support of the European Union.
The speakers - in person or online - came from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Germany.
Adolfo Mesquita Nunes, former Secretary of State for Tourism, gave the opening conference to highlight the importance of this sector.
Fernando Moura Silva and Maria Reina Martin, from Fidestra, directed the seminar.
Among the participants were Piergiorgio Sciacqua, from MCL (Italy) and co-president of EZA; Joseph Thouvenel, CFTC (France) and Vice President of EZA; José Luis Fernández Santillana, from USO (Spain); and Rafael Rodriguez-Ponga, president of the IPCM/PICM.
They found that the pandemic crisis is affecting the tourism sector and, therefore, many immigrants who have lost their jobs.
Some Portuguese professionals from the tourism sector, especially from the Algarve region, also spoke.
