GUIMARÃES (PORTUGAL): THE IPCM HELPS TO ORGANISE THE SEMINAR “THE CRISIS AND YOUTH EMPLOYMENT” (22/09/15)

Guima02From 19 to 21 in Guimarães (Portugal) an international seminar was held, entitled "The crisis and youth employment - Priority for employment and Social Responsibility - The importance of the social partners within the framework of social dialogue" with funding from the European Commission and the European Centre for Workers' Questions (EZA), and with the collaboration of the International Platform for Cooperation and Migration (IPCM).

Over the course of three days the "Europe 2020" strategy and the situation of young people in the European labour market was debated, defining concepts such as the new aspirations of youth employment, and freedom and social justice from the perspective of different European countries.

On Saturday the session began with the panel: "Crisis and employment for youth – it is time to act", followed by "Youth Employment Policies: guidelines and national plans of action", with the intervention of Rafael Rodriguez Ponga, President of the International Platform for Cooperation and Migration (IPCM).

To close the seminar, the last topic for discussion was the importance of youth education and vocational training in the new economic and social context, or the worsening of the crisis in youth employment, creating an intergenerational problem and the risk of a more unequal society.
