Madrid: the future of development cooperation involves everyone

The "Fundación Concordia y Libertad" met in Madrid, on November 7 and 8, a group of political leaders to study the future of development cooperation.

Specifically, they analyzed the current global context, after the great summits that defined international development policies. The participants confirmed the importance of the role of the different actors: NGOs, national, regional and local governments; and others.

The sessions were coordinated by Maribel Alañón, director of the “Fundación Concordia y Libertad”, and member of the Board of Directors of the IPCM.

The act was closed by the vice-president of the Foundation, Cuca Gamarra, who underlined the importance of development cooperation policy.

Among the participants present, highlights Senator Alberto Fabra, former president of the Valencian Community; Gonzalo Robles, spokesman for Ibero-American Affairs of the Senate, who was Secretary General of Spanish Cooperation (AECID); deputies Elvira Velasco and Gabriel Elorriaga; MEP Gabriel Mato; Carlos García Carbayo, mayor of Salamanca and president of the Cooperation Commission of the Federation of Municipalities (FEMP). On behalf of the regional governments, among others, Luis Martínez Sicluna, from Madrid; Enric Millo, from Andalusia; and Jesús Gamallo, from Galicia.
